Which Port To Use?

How do I figure out which port to use for sending data through? I'm mainly worried about interfering with special ports like 80 (HTTP) etc, as well as ports used by private programs like Trend Micro. So how do I know which ones I can use?

IANA registered port numbers

you want an unassigned port and greater than 1024
