JOGRE (Java Online Gaming Real-time Engine)
Jogre alpha 0.1 Released (http://jogre.sourceforge.net) The first version of Jogre, Alpha Release 0.1 has been released. This version includes a relatively stable API and three games: chess, checkers and propinquity. These are available in source and binary formats. JOGRE (Java Online Gaming Real-time Engine) is an open-source, online, real-time games engine and API programmed entirely in Java. Using JOGRE is it is easy to create powerful multi-player games which people can join from anywhere in the world. JOGRE is designed to be an open source equivalent to popular gaming websites such as Yahoo! Games. Each game has its own server which users can connect to and play games against other users from around the world easily in real time. Users can create public tables where anyone can join or private tables where users must be invited.
Is this engine soemhow related to OGRE? Otherwise you should consider changing the name to avoid confusion.
You are the second person to ask that! JOGRE is NOTHING to do with OGRE at all... JOGRE is less concerned with fancy graphics (which OGRE is) and more on the multi player experierence of flat 2D games such as Chess, Checkers, Connect 4 etc.
Wouldent worry about the name thing, neither libraries are propietary right?
Yet they are two products of the same category, so having almost identical names is confusing and not done. They might even sue you at some point. Just some advice here.
Well JOGRE is for creating multi player games easily where as OGRE is for creating 3D graphics right? Everything is open source so why would they want to sue me! That would be silly and go against the community spirit of open source gaming.

You can never tell if or when one of the products will become commercial. And then there will be trouble around the corner. Besides that, it's also a matter of common sense to not choose a name like another similar product, be it commercial or not.
Edit: ok, they may be not completely identical, but it was close enough to have me confused already. As you said, others have asked you as well.
Suggestion: call it Jorge :) 'Java Online Realtime Game Engine' sounds better anyway.
How do you say "JOGRE"? Joe-grr? Hoe-grr? Yoe-grr?
I would have gone with "JORGE," like Jorge Posada. Plus, it actually makes for a better acronym: Java Online Real-time Gaming Engine. But that's neither here nor there.

Both OGRE and JOGRE are open source projects under SourceForge (http://sourceforge.net). JOGRE uses the GPL and OGRE uses the LGPL (GNU Lesser Public Licence) so they will never become commercial products in the sense of being closed source.
