Modding tools
Hi , I am currently working in the industry (which we all love) as a beta tester , One thing which i found pathetic , is that most of the people developing games are not as exited as the designers ( ie programmers etc) So i came across a few guys who like me share the same interest. We have decided to try a mod as our first venture ,well rather start with level modification and hopefully move on to a total conversion.(Yes, i know the introduction was unnecessary) Well what i would ask from you guys is that to suggest me a good game to start out with.Since every game now more or less ships with its own editor , i am a bit confused so as to which one to pick up.what we would prefer is something that is simple to grasp and dosent have much of a learning curve. What a couple of friends have suggested is WorldCraft as the weapon of choice, as there is a pretty good community in case we end up in a deadlock state. Another suggestions are , q3 radiant and unreal tournaments unreal ed. As of now we are just aiming to put together a level for any of the three mentioned above. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
What I found really fun was modding starcraft. Maybe not what your looking for, but the editor is pretty flexible. It has an event system, and used creativly is just like a scripting system.
There were alot of RPGs made, pretty fun stuff.

Thanks for the input Foot Soldier, sadly though , we are not into strat genre ...i ll keep that in mind for my other buddies in case they have a desire to follow the same
I am a big fan of Hammer for Half Life 2(use to be worldcarft renamed to Hammer), I knocked together level in about 15 minutes. Easy to work with and I love the 3D Skybox feature.
Also if you choose Hammer you have the Half Life 2 SDK to create your mod and also you can download XSI:EXP to create 3D Models for your mod.
