A "sweep".. hm. Well, when I hear "sweep", I think "filter sweep" or "synth sweep", which is basically just a synth effect where you start at a low or high cutoff point, and gradually move the cutoff in the opposite direction to create a nice effect. Synth sweeps are common presets on almost all synthesizers I've used.
