How to afford your own development studio

My girlfriend and I recently devised this scheme to make enough money to have your own studio (it'll take a few years but then if it's going to work you need to get experience working in other studios first). If you and your partner both have jobs, I can pretty much gaurantee you can get enough money together in 10-15 years. DON'T HAVE ANY KIDS!!! Just think, a family on normal income can afford to raise 3 chilren, maybe 4. And still somehow go on holiday etc. But kids are REALLY expensive and you have to pay for them for at least 15 years. Food, clothes, toys, school, hobbies, getting a bigger house... So you were going to have a kid, then a nother in 2 years and a 3rd 3 years later. In 15 years, how much will you have spent on your kids? ps: If you want to move this to the lounge please do, but it's more of a joke for this forum I thought?
Well, my hubby and I have 3 young kids and co-founded a mobile games development biz in 2002....and its only now that we are very near launch of our first mobile game! Kids? they cost the earth... but they do come out with the odd off-the-wall words that can be put into games!

ALSO, NEVER GO OUT on a weekend night. You always spend more than you intended. (Don't even think about vacations).

Eat only bread and water.
or
Go on a diet (less food = less epenses). Go to sleep when it gets dark, that way you don't need to buy lightbulbs.

Don't have any friends. You always have to buy them presents for birthdays or go visit them, or offer them something to drink when they come visit.

Don't exercise, cause it'll just make you hungry.

Reuse your toilet paper.(You know, wash it and dry it)

Be naked as much as you can, that way ur clothes lasts longer.

Sell ur kidneys, or ur left lung.

You guys dont know how to cut back.

I founded a game studio based out of my closet. The programmers work from the clothes hanging area and the artists out of the drawers. I on the other hand live on the top shelf. No one is allowed to eat drink or sleep, as you can imagine my closet does smell quite a bit as well.

I think this thread just went to a small dark place full scary, pointy, sharp things. :0

All these money-saving ideas would seem to prevent you having a job, which is pretty important to save up enough.
Two people working can afford to raise 4 kids because of things like tax breaks and food stamps.

While having a studio would be nice, I don't think its worth of the trade off of 10-15 years of your life.

But you should also realize that nothing on planet earth equals the feeling of holding your own baby that is looking at you, smiling, giggling and loving you. No gamedev`ing can ever come even 1% close to this feeling, believe me.

I`m not asking you to understand this. I did understand this when I experienced it and I`m telling you, it`s worth it!

BTW, how come it`s not in the lounge ?
