Is there a tutorial or some code I can have that will open a 3ds 3d file so I can use it in an OpenGL program on win? thanks ~me6 (If I am not being specific enough please tell me)
i never came across a handy tutorial for loading .3DS files. you'll pobably have to write your own if google can't find one for you. you can find the .3DS file format on WOTSIT (http://www.wotsit.org/).

Try GameTutorials ,they have pretty nice 3ds tutorial , of course to load animation from 3ds ,you have to "buy" their CD :) Or you can modify the loader
I found this site http://www.xbdev.net/xbdev.php they have the source code for loading animated 3fd file. Unfortunately this 3ds does load uncorrectly the number of meshes: if the 3ds file contains things such as light and camera they are uncorrectly counted as meshes. If anyone can fix this I will be grateful.
