inspiration, simpson style
I came across the following quote from Mr. Homer J Simpson:
"We can make our own game, where people throw ducks at balloons and nothing is as it seems."
Besides making me laugh, it made me think of making a game with this quote in mind. When I thought about it I was stumped, it's not a dark futuristic..., or a philisophical ride through an rpg world or a world building exercise, or anything like that its just seems like a funny theme that if implemented correctly would be one of those stupid but fun and somehow interesting and addicting games. The throwing ducks at ballons part is easy but the "nothing is as it seems" part and the setup as to why I'd be throwing ducks at ballons has got me stumped. Any ideas?

It sounds as if you're trying to rationalise irrationality [wink]
Why not take the cue and write a really whacked-out game where the question isn't "Why am I throwing ducks at a ballon?" but "Why isn't the balloon throwing them back?"

all i can do or say is laugh and how funny the previous message is. and its really interesting how he had put it as well.
but hmm i think you have something there infinisearch.or actually youhave to realise that nothing as it seems when throwing a duck at balloons is what Mr. Homer J. Simpson is trying to relate to. But you could have red, orange, green, blue, white, purple, brown, yellow, black, pink,?, balloons and also ducks the same color. you can use this format as a mario esque type game. Finding the truth of why there are so many beers in a keg and not in a box, or why there are eight hot dog buns and not ten stuff like this would be interesting.and have other missions or quests where he would have to bail out bart and or stop a wedding that lisa never weanted to married in thefirst place and have maggie actually get a mission or something al;ong the way when homer is sleeping on the couch after a long day of drinking beer ? lol
oh and when maggie comes back trying to find something or stop something she comes back and you can have homer in a dream type level trying to get more beer for extra bonus points or something. I hope this works for ya . I would like to help out if I can.

Yeah, if Homer said that it must be a great idea! I'd play the game just because it's based on a Homer quote! I even have Homer slippers ...
Mmmm..... ducks....

Go arcade style and you dont need a reason. Think of Tetris - theres no reason you're putting those blocks into place, its just what you do. You dont always have to justify to the player why they're doing something, as long as you can at least to some degree immerse them in actually doing it.
