Website color scheme
Not too sure this is the place where I should post this but... oh well anyway.
Ok, I'm currently writing a website for a friend. The catch is, I'm partially color blind. Therefore I could use a little hand while choosing the website color scheme. (Note that the layout isn't final, and especially the text will move a lot. However this is the basic disposition I will use.
He'd like a kinda serious look, but maybe with a bit of warmth. the css is called main.css if you want to tinker with it, but just some advice on what I should use or hex color codes would do nicely.
I played with it and I liked a blue-orange-grayscale combination, but I couldn't seem to make it right.

Could you use something like this...
http://www.webwhirlers.com/colors/wheel.asp
or
http://www.colorschemer.com/
I remember using the download of colour studio and I think it has 'moods' which recommend colours.
Hope it helps.

00squeaky at your service...maybe.
The blue-orange-gray is pretty common for websites and tends to look good. Honestly, I would suggest stealing the colors from another site that you like (or that other people like :) ) and working from those as your base colors.
Can you post hex values of what you're trying or anything?
And 00squeaky - that wasn't necessary in any way. There are parts of your site that need improvement, too, but we aren't blasting you for them. I know my sites have had problems, and some have been pretty bad hack jobs, but they get better when I *get out of testing phases* like xMcBaiNx is in.

gsgraham.comSo, no, zebras are not causing hurricanes.
Some ideas for colors:
Blue #09A7DB
Orange #EF9911
Gray #COCOCO
...and they look a little better on a white background. And you can always 'round off' the hex values if you want. Let us know what you think, or if you want different colors, or have your own suggestions - esp. when you get some more done with the layout of the site, should be good.

sorry for the graininess. but that is my site. pm me idf you want some graphic files.
Of course this is not final. The headers part of sections will be pictures as well as the borders, but I'd be hard pressed to churn out pictures and graphic elements without priot choice of the color scheme.
@Avatar God: I'm toying with the design right now and your colors look nice at first. I'll let you know when I am done fiddling with those.

Heh, that's pretty much the basis for my website colour scheme

I don't think the PhotoShop-filtering is pretty, at all. Rather use vector-art (which is very in).

i wasnt blasting him for it either. i just said he needed a more flowing color shceme. i was also just providing a visual... i cant completely redo php code on this site.
-------------------------------------------------
that is a much better layout than what i saw last night. just a few things-
it is not crummy (sry)
it still need more detail. if you are contemplating on what colors you use in your graphics, get a program like photoshop or paint shop pro so you can adjust the colors when you figure them out.
put a bit more ble into the site, if you want to sell something.
make a striped background if you plan to go on with that color scheme. if you want a serious look, use a few curves where you need them, and use straight lines alot. color does not realy matter in terms of seriousness, as long as they are either close or diverse in hue, just not clashing.
i'm color blind too. it just takes a bit of practice.
if you need some usefull php scripts (my specialty language), pm me.
