Visual C++ Edition
I am going to get Visual C++ 6 (i''ve been using version 4) and I was wondering if the is the professional edition is that much better than the standard edition. I don''t need a lot of the crap they add, but I have heard that standard edition makes slower programs. Is there that big of a difference? Thanks for you help.

Yes, the profesionnal edition is much better than the standard edition.
It includes optimistations, and a couple of more usefull tools like a profiler.
But, if you are just buying a compiler to have some fun coding at home and your money is in the low, well the standard edition will be just fine.

Over at the genesis3d forum I read that the vc++ 5 had some kind of a floating point bug that prevented the 3d engine from running correctly. Personally I have vc++ 6 standard and until I ship something it will do the job. I''ve also read somewhere that optimized code will give you about 1 to 2 fps advantage but don''t hold me to it I''ve got it for $80 minus $50 MS rebate so total cost was around $30. Best money I''ve spent and I''ve had borland 4.52 before this compiler which cost me also $30. I say go for the standard if you''re a newbie because by the time you''ll need the pro version a new version of vc++ will probably be out. Don''t forget to patch vc++ 6 to sp3 or sp4.
