where can i find a free downloadable game engine such as Half Life Engine, or Quake or Flashpoint ????

Can you get more wrong than this? Quake is opensourced, Half-Life is not, although their Mod SDK is free for download.

Why dont you try either the nebula2 engine (google for it). Very very good. (Not to mention free!)
