I''m fed up with using MIDI instruments for all my work - promising myself that "some day" I''ll hire some people to perform them and record it properly - so I think it''s time I invested in some proper sample CDs. As such, I''m looking for advice on what to get. Brand names, ''must haves,'' whatever. If possible, available through Amazon UK, because that''s where I buy most of my multimedia these days. Specifically, I''m looking for industrial-strength drums (both loops or individual hits), and some classical stuff (strings and the like - sound of an orchestra, without the orchestra). Any recommendations?

There''s a huge selection of orchestral cd brands. Somewhere at the top of the line is the Miroslav series. AKAI has some good string ensemble CD''s as well.

Thanks, that''s a good start.

I''m getting the impression that Amazon doesn''t stock sample CDs... so forget about that criterion.

However, I forgot to mention that I''m looking for royalty-free samples. (You probably guessed).

I have reason 2.5 and modplug tracker. Reason has awsome samples, which i export into modplug where needed.
"Mommy, where do microprocessors come from?"
I''d rather not buy an entire program just to get the samples it comes with.

Depending on the style of music you might want to take a look at "Drumkit from Hell", awesom (hard)rock drumkit samples..

You may be interested in the Garritan Personal Orchestra, which stresses realism by allowing the musician to control everything from the automatic blending of an instrument''s continuous and ending samples to having the string section play only downward bowstrokes.

This is very educating

Is there a way to rip samples from WaveTable Synthizers?

Well, Reason comes with a massive stack of samples, you''ll probably not need any more than what comes with it. Not to mention the posibilities with synths, etc.

Reason is really designed to make MIDI sound better. Good investment.
How much is Reason? $500 v_v
