Yep make sure you are using a crossover cable for PC->PC connection, if you are using a hub then a standard cable is fine. Are these Win98 machines? If so what all do you have setup in network neighborhood? Some more info here would help us to help you out...
I'm using IPX connectiong with Client for Microsoft Networking, both machine win98 but one is first and the other is second edition.

The 2 computers are connected, but they do you automatically show in Network Neighborhood, I have to manually go to Windows Explorer or something like that and type in //CompName to view the computers or go to Find/Computers and search for the other computer. How do I get Network Neighborhood to automatically do it for me?

and oh, how do i get them to share 1 internet connection? THANKS IN ADVANCE

1) use tcp/ip not ipx..
make sure you have tcp/ip, netbui protocols installed on both computers

using internet connection sharing is easy
you need at least one comp with win98SE
with the 98se one:
add/remove programs, windows setup, internet tools or something, install internet connection sharing
when it asks you for a disk, if you have other comps WITHOUT 98se insert a disk
then reboot
go to your other comp
if it is a win98se, go into network properties and tcp/ip properties for the network card
set the ip to be auto assigned
reboot both comps.

if it doesn''t have 98se, put in the disk, run the exe, reboot both comps, make sure in its network properties the ip is auto assigned

make sure the ip of the 98se comp is 192.168.0.1

it should work fine then...
hope its not too hard to understand
You must have NetBEUI installed to share drives or other network resources. TCP/IP is something like TeleComunitcation Protocol/Internet Protocol, it''s not necassary unless you want to share internet access. IPX/SPX is often used with games. It''s not used on the internet although some software can do it. But if you plan to run networked game then you''ll need IPX/SPX. Ummm you probably won''t run Netware so you don''t need that, oh Client for Microsoft Networks you''ll want to share resources...

If the network cards are setup properly (Usually 98 will do it for you) then you just set Client for microsoft networks. And it''ll add a default set of protocols and it should work... (Of course you''ll have to specify a computer name and workgroup.) Workgroups should be the same amoung the networked computers the name should be different for each computer...

Hope clarifies the protocols a bit!
See ya,
Ben

so what''s the problem with Network Neighborhood not automatically show all the connected computers? I can share files now, but my point of interest is trying to do remote debugging.

When is setup for remote debugging, it said could not fine the remote computer with the name ... or address ...

What the hell? been bothering me all day long

What''s that NetBEUI thing again and how to I get it up and running?
start>control panel>network

add protocol
microsoft
NetBUI
ok
ok
restart

They explain what you need, and what to do =)

This is kinda off-topic, but someone said that TCP stands for TeleCommunction Protocol, that''s not quite right, it''s (IIRC) Transport Control Protocol. Oh btw, I''d advise agains''t using NetBeui anywhere else but on small networks, because it keep broadcasting crap all over the network (Ever been to DreamHack? They have leaflets telling you how to turn on netbeui and filesharing, and the broadcast storm managed to kill off a virtual terminal on a machine when I ran tcpdump on it)
