I have Mandrake installed on this computer (im using windows right now). When i reboot and start up mandrake, it tells me "You are required to change your password immediatly (password aged)" except there is no way to change passwords on the login screen and nothing i try will let me in. I really really really need to get into it or im totally screwed....HELP! ---------------------------------------------------------

check out these pictures of mine

Is this for a user account or root? If it''s a user account just login as root and use the passwd command to change your user account''s password. If it''s for root thats a little more difficult. You *might* be able to set the root password if you boot linux in single user mode. To do this I think you pass ''single'' to the kernel at boot time. If you use grub as your bootloader then this will be easy to do, not sure about lilo though.
"Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.".....V

Im new to linux, so i''m not totally sure about all you said. To be more specific with my problem, the computer boots up and displays the

input boxes. Thus I cant even get into anything at all. I have no idea if its a root or a user account, because i dont know the difference. I always have have logged in with my normal name and password.

Are you suggesting typing ''root'' as the username?

How do i know if i have grub or lilo?

Thanks for the post.
Well Im not sure on Mandrake, I have Gentoo, but should be the same.
As has been mentioned use ''root'' as user name and enter your password. If you installed Linux you should have specified a root password along the way.
If theres a Problem with your Interface try repeatedly pressing ''CTRL'' ''ALT'' ''Backspace'' to get into the ''console'' area, then enter root password.
