Do you feel that the design forum says ideas that have been already though up already and have been ideas for your games for years? Its like many of the ideas here I have though up and put some in one game. It’s like one idea is a discovery to put in one game but it not that specials since I prefer a game that has many original ideas in 1 game. Some people kind of butcher the idea by wanting a game to only reply on just one idea or using the ½ way with out its full potential which makes it sound like a chop shop. Does this happen to others? Happens to me all the time. The fact is that its very difficult to come up with a completely original idea. Not to say it can''t be done -- I feel I have a few of them, as I''m sure other posters in this forum do.

On the other hand, its difficult to say where originality separates from mundane. At what point is an idea completely original? Is that something that can even be defined?

In an "original" setting, how many factors are borrowed from long-standing literary traditions? Which are borrowed from other games? Can you define the genre of the setting, and if so, is it really original? Can you define the genre of the game, and if so, is it really original? How many elements in the original setting are borrowed from our own reality, from daily life? At what point are those factors considered mundane or borrowed, or so "realistic" that they can''t be considered original?

Case in point: Was The Sims original? In what ways? I''d argue that some of the technology was original or unique, but that none of the underlying concepts were original at all. Every conceptual element of that game was borrowed from somewhere else. What about SimCity? Same thing. And yet Will Wright is commonly hailed as one of the most forward-thinking revolutionaries in the Game Design field.

Well yes and no. If you treat all games the same then there is no originality. Maybe u can call PSX Castlevania SOTN not original and done many times before but I don''t think so since it hasn’t been done together. Prince of person has been done before and you can say that the new game sands of time is nothing new but I say it has some original thing in it like the use of the rewind time option that no other action game has done or at least has done that well that well to that extent which makes it original. Many say Mario 64 is original and many say it isn’t since 3D 3rd person action games have been done before, but I say it''s original when it came out since it has not been done as well with so many original things which did catch many peoples attention which set the standard for other 3D games. Another example is street fighter how there were fighting game before the original but Capcom made it stick out from the others with its controls which set the standard.

I agree that many games are just copies and modifications of the other and don''t different in a wide % but some have many copied thing in one game that has not been done before I think. Well thats my option.
