Need a good room/level editor/modeler.
Any suggestions? I'd like something free, but if there aren't any useable free ones I could use something under $100.

Do you want something that can do all three or is just one okay? Level editors come free with certain games, or people make free ones for them. Half-life and Quake are examples.

In all honesty I don''t have a copy of either game, so that doesn''t really help me...
As long as I can make decently complex and very large levels and they can be converted into a format (or used directly) in a game, and it''s relatively easy to use (making a large level in milkshape is not what I''d call fun ).

Your making a game I assume so you already have render code for your format. Just create another version of your game with a detailed gui and dump your structures into a file to reload later. It''s alot nicer to create an editor that naturaly saves in your current format, not to mention a good learning experience. If you want, talk to me about your needs and I''ll see if I could help. msn: kincaid05@hotmail.com

Well, my current format is MD2, but that''s probably not what I''ll end up using. I''m sure there are much better editors than anything I could make.

There are also probably much better games then you could make. But your doing it because you like programming and you like to awe at your creations.

I''d like to focus on making a game rather than spending time writing tools. I''d like to use something tried and true in order to make levels for my game.

Ok, then I also assume you dont have 3d studio or anything like that. Blender is free, never used it but have heard good things. I think its awkward to get used to or something though. When I was buying motors for something a while ago someone told me there are three options for motors, fast, powerful, cheap, u choose 2. This applies to modeling software too. Only its cheap, easy, fast. I''m not suggesting you download 3d studio for free, or am I?, I forget....
I''ve used blender a bit, though I''m still bad at it. I''ll have to try it.
3D studio is far too expensive (I''d like something free or under $100, like I said).
Aren''t fast and easy the same thing?

First, if you buy one of the games that come with editors (Unreal, Warcraft, Counterstrike etc), you get the editor. That''s like $19-$49 (depending on how new the game is).
Second, there are "free" versions of various packages; Maya Learning Edition; dot-XSI, gmax etc. These usually come with various game packs. Some game packs are pay-for with the games; others are free.
