Hi all this is just the general outline for a game idea I had. Any comments will be welcomed. Dragon Knights 6 types of dragons one can play as 3 Good Dragons of small medium and large size 3 Evil Dragons of small medium and large size Gameplay will be similar to the mechanics of the classic arcade game joust. 4 modes of play Cooperative…players kill of computer opponents Versus…Two or more good dragon players vs. Two or more evil dragon players (8 players max) Race…A race to the finish Hunt…..All players attempt to kill a large dangerous creature I was thinking 10 or so different environments for each type of mode of play. Reward System Kill Anything in the game gives you points towards flight levels as you ascend levels of flight you have the option of executing special flight Moves (burst of speed, fast drop, instant reverse vector..etc. ) In Versus Mode you can earn Alignment points that give you magical effects. The higher level good or evil you attain the more magic options you have (Destroy terrain, slow opponent… etc.) Permanents…Very rarely during Cooperative mode and Hunts an ancient item will drop. These are permanent items and when they appear it becomes a free for all and the last man standing when time expires owns the item. Specifics….(If the game idea sounds interesting send an email to spinoza_43221@yahoo.com for more details)
I don''t know... Joust was pretty sweet as it was. Throwing in things like sizes (whatever that does) and wacky power-ups seems more like pollution than progress.

A lot of this idea seems to center on fighting. Joust''s system was basically a simple game of chicken. You try to get above your opponent at the last possible second, or else you both whack your heads against the ceiling and hope you get lucky. Or you wuss out and hit the bricks. How will you change the system to allow for things like fighting "a large dangerous creature"?

Large flying creatures would require some players to distract/slow while others drop in from the top multiple times.

Others would only be able to be killed with a head on attack that is slightly above the level of the creature.

By the way I see players actually using 4 buttons

One for flapping wings like classic joust
One for specials that you get from dying creatures (kinda like mario kart)
One for flight manuevers
One for magic manuevers
Sounds like it could be fun, although I don''t know how much it would be like joust in the end. You could do a lot of neat things with the concept, like adding the layer of having populations on the ground that could get damaged. Maybe it wouldn''t really be a goal or objective at all to destroy towns, but it would be really neat to see a dragon die and fall down onto a town below, crushing buildings.

Are you actually playing as dragons or as knights riding dragons? Knights riding dragons could open up a lot of possibilities, too, like allowing two dragons to get locked in combat holding on to each other and the two knights could attack at each other during the "locked" period.

I take it this would be 3D?
2D would be enough, but a 3D implementation would open up some different opportunities and problems. I''d rather see it in 2D, myself, but it''s not my design.

How would the joust-style combat translate into 3D? I think you''d have to complicate it considerably to make it remotely workable, and that would cost you a lot in terms of intuitive gameplay.

The idea of dragons getting "locked" together like fighting eagles is a bitchin'' concept. I''d like to see that idea implemented, but not necessarily in this game. But if Spinoza wants to give it a try, it could work in 2D or 3D equally well, I think.

So, Spinoza, what exactly do the different dragon sizes do for the player?

The larger dragons fall a slightly faster and have a little more lift when they flap their wings.
Smaller dragons will have a greater acceleration on the horizontal plane.

And I was thinking it would still be a 2D game.
