The easy way: get a MIDI player that can export to WAV files (WinAmp should let you do it), then convert these WAV files to MP3.

Lets go over some basic theory. MIDI isn''t audio, MP3 IS audio. Slight difference there.

However, when you play a midi file, the midi device in your computer plays the desired instrument from it''s sound bank, which is audio.

So what you have to do, is record the audio that is outputted from your midi device when it plays such a file. D/L an audio utility, like Audicity, and follow the setup instructions, then record your midi into a .wav file. From there, compress it to MP3 either with the same program (where available) or with iTunes or something, theres alot of free converters out there.
Can you guys post converters? Im looking for somenow. WinAmp only converts MIDIS intos RII or something like that.

Are you sure it wasn''t RMI? RMI is an internet MIDI format.

Anyway, there is no direct way of converting MIDI to MP3. MIDI is an abbreviation for Musical Instrument(s) Digital Interface, meaning it''s an interface that plays back music using the different instrument presets loaded into the Sound Canvas on your computer or whatever the program that is playing it tells it to use.

MP3 is a compressed form of WAV which basically got it''s name because when you record something you record the wave patterns made by the source and play back those Wave patterns. MIDI has no wave patterns because an actual MIDI file is merely a file that tells your computer to play this note at this given time using this instrument for the given length of the note.

Now, there are programs like Timidity that "kind of" convert the MIDI to MP3/WAV, but they aren''t actually converting per say. They are actually making a silent recording of the MIDI using the soundfonts/samples you load into Timidity to create a WAV file. Timidity is about the same as importing a MIDI into ModPlug and adding samples to it, then using that to convert to WAV.

http://www.modplug.com/

You can record MIDI using that after loading samples, but unless you know what you are doing, the MIDI will turn to shit after importing it.

Peace,
Zack
