Yea but at the same time, if it weren''t for technology, we''d be playing Quake3 as a text game..
I read the foreword by John C in Michael Abrash''s and he says he is always striving to learn more about 3d, not make better games.. It''s what the gamemakers want, not the consumer (I don''t know why but it just is)..

In my opinion, the programmers should be striving to learn more about technology coding, and not about making better games. It''s the job of the designer to strive to make better games. Of course, if the programmer/designer are one and the same, then they should be doing both, but I dont know of that happening in any major projects at this point in time.
