I'm finishing up Windows Game Programming for Dummies, and it was an excellent start to my programming ventures. Right now I'm looking for a book that can teach me more in-depth how to program under Windows, i.e. not from a gamers perspective, but from the perspective of someone who wants to code the next Photoshop or something One example that I have... in Win Game Programming for Dummies, the author will give you a list of control flags for a function, and then add in the little disclaimer "this is by far not a complete list, many more flags exist". (Of course this is to be expected... this is a Dummies book after all.) Well where would I find myself a complete list What I'm trying to say is, I want a book that makes a great reference (You know, the "C++: The Complete Reference" except for Windows), but is also really good at teaching the more advanced concepts concerning Windows programming (not necessarily from a game perspective) with the same "friendliness" that is in the Dummies book. Maybe I need two books; one a really good reference, and the other a more learning-friendly book? Thanks for your insights and suggestions. EDIT ADDENDUM: I neglected to mention that I'm also looking for a book that can teach me all I need to know about Direct3D, since the Dummies book never goes there but I figure it's crucial to learn. -Zed Edited by - ZedAgent on 7/26/00 4:35:43 AM
