Are games a form of art and as such should be pursued and developed as such. Meaning that you do them not because you want to make money, but because you love making games and have a passion for them. Or should we consider them a business or construction project much like an engineer designing a bridge.

Who says that art is not about money? The more I read about it, the more I think that it is blatantly about money, whilst pretending that it isn''t. Artists can make a lot of money from selling their works to galleries, a bloke in 1976 made 1m pounds from the Tate by selling it Equivalent Eight, which was a pile of white bricks arranged in a rectangle. This ''sculpture'' was one of eight piles of bricks which showed different ways to arrange 240 bricks (into rectangles).

Damien Hirst (Hurst?) has made about 40 million from his varied artworks, and the investments that he made on the back of the profits from it.

Auction houses make huge amounts of money selling people''s paintings and antiques. Do you think that Van Gogh would have liked to have received the money that Sunflowers made at auction. (well, he was mad so you never know).

In olden times, patrons commisioned sculptors and painters to make pictures for them.

But, we still pretend that painting/ ''art'' is not about money, that it is just a hobby. Something to be done for the ''love of art''. Many artists no doubt REALLY DO believe that art is supposed to be free. But as you can seem, there is a lot of money that is made from it.

It is great to enjoy producing ''art'', but surely it is even better to make a good profit from it.
Books are changing ther reader if he reads them. Games are changing the player if he is playing them. If books are considered art, then games should be considered as well.

Do you remmember FF7? Or famous words: "phoenix down, where is phoenix down?"
Or: "Why do you want to go with me? You don''t believe me?" "Would you believe person that killed his own father?" "You have a point. Come"

Both have something simillar. Authors could earn more money if they''d do something else.

But well, It''s about artistic expresion. You''d do it if you would be paid, you would do it without sallary. I actually think that games that are created without sallary are better. Thought they has lower chance to be sucesfully finished, the clear advantage: nobody messed with them to earn more money, is visible from long distance.

ok here i am

you may not agree with my post but YEAH it''s from my study in my art school (this may mean nothing but it is rank 5th in france

Qu''est-ce que c''est 5th in france? Ecole ... Paris?

I think that France artistic schools are hendayo. Hendandayo... Thought France fairy tale movies are highly unorthodox and most of them are high quality. France, Germany, Czech, Polska, Slowakia schools have one bad common, they believe too much in theory. Acutally it''s worse they''d test you if you know few nice sounding phrases (and they believe that''s the actual knowledge) Art schools are small, but not complete exception.

You could view an art as the same though few centuries, no need to use boxes for small differences. Even if pay for like art was affected by "the culture demands", unpayed art wasn''t. You could see very little change throught milenia, and probably biggest change was in art storage. No longer nice dry caves with ability to store art for milenia, now we have small encrypted devices that would be useless when last reader would be broken. (if not warez/cracker community.) ~_%
