Isometric with D3DIM

What do you think of using Direct3D for isomtric drawing. If you don''t understand what I mean go to Turbo(turbo.gamedev.net) and look the screenshot of my Iso2k Engine. Pekka Heikura

It''s a viable option, and is usually faster too. You get to use all the cool 3D effects, not the LEAST of which is alpha-blending, which is criminally missing from DirectDraw.

Nobody would be surprised to know that I like it. :-)
I know that there is allready a discussion about the object format but here it goes again and again....

What format to use for objects in Iso Engine which uses D3D. Can I use .x format with D3DIM or it is just for D3DRM? Any other formats? Or should I use the standard way render 2D images in 3D program and use them?
