I have an interesting idea for a game and I''d like some input on it. The game is called Cryptid. In the game, you command mythical beasts and mystery powers such as teratorns, sasquatches, ogopogos, ghosts, and other weird creatures including a few that I have invented, such as Angnryians and Shadarrynar. I have not gotten an detailed interface design yet, but that''s something that I hope to get from your suggestions. I''m composing a bit of music for it but I would love your suggestions. You havn''t given us too much information about it... not to be an ass or anything, but what will make your RTS different other than the pictures/models/names that are assosiated with each unit? What kind of gameplay will it have. That kind of stuff is really, in my opinion, what makes a game, not the picutre that is used to represent the game. RTS, should be, all about game-play.

Id have to agree with the above. I have no idea what the creatures are going to have to do, and what the gameplay will be like. That will obviously dictate the interface.
I''d like to hear more about your ideas. Until then... I don''t want to shoot my mouth off.

Hmm, your right.

In my mind, the game is sort of like Age of Empires and Starcraft, but it takes place at different times and different places. I guess it could also be like Age of Mythology since theirs mythical beasts and stuff like that, but its either just those creatures or just humans. So, its like critters against people.

Here is a sample list of units and their attacks and building spots in the order of the tech tree.

Unit Name - Attack - Building
=============================================================
Sasquatch - Punch, Kick, Log Slam - Den
Teratorn - Swoop, Claw, Wind Storm - Nest
Ogopogo - Waterspout, Squirt, Tail lash Submerge -Dock
Angnryians - Blade stab, choke - Den
Shadarrynar - Punch, Kick, Claw Stab, Fly - Mutate
- from Angrnyian
================================================================

Will that help at all?
Here is a description of each unit:
Sasquatch - Big hairy guy
Teratorn - Enormous bird of prey
Ogopogo - Weird water dinosaur
Angnryians - Big heads with bone blades in clouds of gas
Shadarrynar - Humaniods with clawed wings

Those are some of my ideas.

There is a reason for everything.

Its a decent start.

It seems that each unit has multipule attacks... How does this work? Do you tell unit A to attack unit B with attack method C? I take it, different attacks would be better against different units... I''d be careful if I were you to keep from mking 1 unit, or each unit, able to have an advantage over every other unit due to it having multipule attacks. Its like you have a rock-paper-scissors system, where each unit can use which ever, rock, paper, or scissors, is best in the current situation. Normally, each unit can only use one, and thus the gamer must decide which units to send and have a variety so his swarm of rocks isn''t easily defeated by a storm of paper...

I see some difficult gameplay issues makeing sure that it is fair and encourages the use of many different monsters and different abilities. Definately not impossible though.

If I were you, I would sit down, write down all of the units and thier attacks. Write down which attacks would be advantagous/disadventagous against certain units. make sure that every unit has the same number of advantages and disadvantages. If you do also make sure that certain pairs of monsters aren''t nearly invinsible, you should have a very interesting gameplay system I would think.

Hope I could help
