Ok, for my tile engine i temporarily draw all the tile to an offscreen surface in system memory and blt it to the back buffer. With this i got about 54 fps. Then i tried an experiment, i blt-ed about 118 tiles (approx. the amt. that would be needed to fill the screen) to the screen to see what by fps would be with tiles instead of one big surface. With this i got about 65 fps. I got these results on a Voodoo 3 2000, and my game runs at 800x600x16. So my question is are these results normal? What fps do you guys get? +AA_970+
I get 25 fps on my p166 with a 2MB video card.

Hi AA_970,

Ya that''s normal. Anothing is normal perhaps, transfert from sys mem. to video mem. Its extremly slow.

So i suggest you that you load all your tiles to your video mem. That Blt from there !!! And there should be no problem regerding Video Mem if you have a Voodoo3 !!

Stupid me i forgot i still had the tiles in sys mem when i did that experiment. Now when i use the tiles instead of the big surface i get about 200 fps !!!!
