Have any of you really looked at the lighting in Diablo. One can clearly see that the tiles are isometric because each tile have it''s own lighting value. And starcraft uses square tiles. I know, because I''ve looked inside the data files.
oops.
didn''t mean to post a new post...

Diablo 2 isnt isometric, its 3D. If you notice when you move there is parallax scrolling because its 3D rendered. But it does have a similar view angle as an isometric game.

Possibility
Diablo 2 is in fact also isometric.
Try to turn off the Perspective option in
video options and you''ll see what I mean.

I''m not shure what they did, but I think everything
with its base near the bottom of the screen is stretched
so it looks like real perspective, but really isn''t.
Yah, it is isometric I guess, but there is the option for 2D or 3D. If you turn on the 3D rendering, objects in the foreground (objects placed near the bottom of screen, but are tall and cover up ojects that are further back) will move more then the objects in the background, which is unlike a standard 2D isometric game like civ2.

Possibility
Diablo 2 is actually part of a new format which has been dubbed "5D." This means that it is a 2D engine that utilizes 3D effects (such as alpha-blending, colored lighting, etc).

5D??

hmmm...

If 3D is the measure of coordinates (X,Y,Z) and 4D adds time...what does the fifth "D" add?

Another dimension or some type of accelerate?

hehehehe

made ya think!
