Revolutionizing A Genre: Is this difficult for you?

When you design a game for a near dead game genre(fighting, racing, flight simulators, etc.) do you try to present a new idea that could possible revitalize or revolutionize such a genre or do you just follow the rest of the crowd and add features in your game that were created by someone else(stolen ideas)? When it comes to revolutionizing a genre, I construct some embarrassing, desperate attempts to revolutionize a genre. I do things like add character development to flight simulators.........or have something stupid as that..... ~~~ Signature: ~~ Satan sent me to destroy the video game industry.

And why is character development in a flight sim such a stupid thing?

I believe one should avoid genre thinking.

I don''t think its stupid but when I presented the idea to someone they called it, "stupid". I take critism very seriously when it comes to game design. I want to make the greatest game ever created. I was to over-shadow Miyamoto. I want to be the greatness. Not the second greatness. I''m coming up with new ideas every day. I WILL be the best........sorry if I''m bragging.

If you''re going to be the "greatness" then you really have to pick and choose what is good advice and what unenlightened advice is. I''m not saying that I''m some sort of great inventor, but put it this way: When Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone he was originally working on a way to get 8 telegraph "conversations" on one line. Then it hit him: Why don''t I just let people talk on the lines? Look up his original patent. It''s filed as "An Improvement in Telegraphy."

My point? He took the idea to his boss and he fired him. Bell took his crazy idea to the circus first as a novelty. He would call the mayor or another important figure in the town and talk to him all the way from the circus: "Is that you Mayor Smith sitting in your office..." Then he took the idea to the railroads and they were clammoring for it...then the news papers...Now it''s hard to find a house without a telephone.

Keep going dude. Not everyone''s gonna see your vision until it takes frutition.

That is very true but its hard to carry on when you''re the only person who thinks your idea is cool. But I''ll continue.

i WILL TOO

well if you want to do this, you must think in these term>> don''t make video games

why??

look at youre reference, Miyamoto san, he has always a step on every body who try to make video games, it''s because video games is the last think he does. Video games for video games can only give endless loop which we can not drop that easily, it''s a trap, a black hole. Miyamoto come''s with new idea that''s not primary from video games, donkey kong was because i felt that a game needs a little story, pikmin was because he has seen ant in his garden, mario 64 was because he want to convey the feeling he had in a garden and zelda was because he want us sharing the emotion he once have as a children by playing in ruins near his home.

in all case, the last thing is the video games , the very last thing where he express his meaning has a man.

you want to be the greatest? then keep living, beep feeling, and express it through game.

you felt that flight sims lake characterisation?? then find why you felt that way and express it.

you want to be the greatest? then train rival also, they will train you as well, pushing you forward

i have a dream, and it''s the same as you

to make dream real we have to step into reality

because the reality is the dream among dream

PS: you can find great advice at www.pagtech.com
check the article "evil of genre"
revitalize genre is easy when you pass through the code of the genre, you must forgot about genre and find what''s the purpose of the genre, what''s it express, what kind of experiance it was created for, and then try to find youre own way to express the same, don''t let appearence trap you, think only to match the experiance you want to provide (did rpg mean fantasy?? or stat improve?? why did the rpg has the setting of fantasy and why we have created the stat system?? find the purpose and rephrase them, learn from them)
