New idea for a game. you like?
how do you think a game would be (3d) that had no specific plot. I''m not saying that it has no storyline, but that the gamer would have to play the game like he would real-life. if he wasn''t at the right place at the right time, he''d lose a bit of tasty info, etc... game never takes the same route twice, that sort of thing... i know this isn''t *completely* possible, but i think it would be a novel idea... what do you say? suggestions? possible problems?

Ever play AD&D without a GM?
or with a bad one?

- The trade-off between price and quality does not exist in Japan. Rather, the idea that high quality brings on cost reduction is widely accepted.-- Tajima & Matsubara
Well, i don't think that's a very good idea. Sorry. I mean there's no point to the game, the player never accomplishes anything because without a plot you can never win the game and nothing propells the storyline after the intro. It sounds pretty tiring to sit in front of your computer playing a game with no outcome. Think about constantly playing the same level of doom over and over again, it's not exactly the same thing, but that's what a game with no outcome will eventually lead to.
You should try to give the story a plot, make it a little more linear, maybe make it an RPG.
Well that just my opinion

Sorta like life; no point, no accomplishments (well...do they really matter?), you can''t really win (people win, but its never you).Doesn''t mean we stop trying (most of use, anyway)
I suppose for a video game there should at least be a goal.Look at frogger for example, there really is no storyline, but you have a goal - get the frog to the hole at the top of the screen and don''t die doing it.I can remember playing frogger quite a bit, and my friends too, so I suppose it could work if you did it right.

well, i didn''t mean the game would have NO plot, but you would just have to play it like you would the game of life, totally non-linear.
there would be many solutions to the "problem(s)". another thing that would be interesting (imo) would be a game like that, but mp, with many players, that have many different occupations, like ultima online (i think)...

hmmm... no specific plot... sure sounds like a MMPRPG.
As for not being at the right place at the right time.... well there are a few games that were like that.... Psyhic Detective... Voyeur... etc.etc.
But then again.... just make a MMPRPG should be fine.

Don''t know about anyone else, but I hate it when I complete a game. Gotta go off and find something else to do with my life ;-)

- There are already computer games that have no plot. Tetris is one, Pong is another. A plot is essentially the same as a storyline, and you don''t need a storyline to have a fun and challenging game, but it makes it easier to use lots of eye-catching graphics (gotta have good screen shots for the preview pages, you know!).
What you seem to want is a game that has no set objective. A game with no set objective is a toy. The SimCity line and Rollercoaster Tycoon are two examples, so games/toys like this can sell well, but even they limit what you can do to one basic activity. How would you simulate everything? - Lubb

RPD=Role-Playing-Dialogue. It's not a game,it never was. Deal with it.
