Blender: How to subdivide a face in two?

Blender 2.28 is out now. You might want to pick it up, a good few bug fixes are in it.

mmmm, I still can''t find a way to subdivide a group of faces...

Here is a screenshot, the red line is the subdivision I want to make, I tried turning "Beauty" on and then pressing subdivide, but I get vertical subdivision only...

Until Blender get better tools, you will have to divide those faces manually by selecting the edges and subdividing, then connect the points created. A little trick I used when I had bunch of edges to subdivide is to select edges that together don''t make a face and subdivide, then select the remain and subdivide.

It was this kind of frustration that drove me to use Wings(www.wings3d.com) for my organic modeling. As it is primarily focused on modeling only, it has tons of tools. To make the subdivision like you are trying to do in Wings, you could select all the edges in that row, then perform a ''connect'' command and then you would have a new edge loop.

I still use Blender to model stuff like chairs, and other squareish props, but I am just more productive use Wings for characters.

But don''t take my experience with Blender''s modeling tools to be the final word on the matter. Go to the forums at www.elysiun.com and ask this in the Q&A forum.

Oh, sad thing.

I''m learning Wings 3D too but I couldn''t make the python scripts work in blender to import from Wings, I installed Phyton and configured the enviroment variables but it throws this strange error:

So I went back to Blender, but it seems to be that I''ll have to see how to put those python scripts to work...

The old obj scripts won't work in new versions of Blender (newer than 2.23) due to changes in Pyton API.

Here is a link to new script that works with newer versions of Blender. http://www.clubinfo.bdeb.qc.ca/~theeth/objIO_288.py

For best results you should change all of the faces to the same material. Then export in Wings. You will need to open the obj file with a text editor and make some minor adjustments.

Open the file look for lines that begin with the following:

mtlib
o
g
usemtl

You will need to put a # in front of these lines and save. The reason for this is that the programmer has not added support for importing textures.

Another option would be to use that old script that you have with Blender 2.23 or earlier.
