I posted the last post.I forgot to mention one idea i have.If you make a fighting game Gladiator style you shold try adding a bonus stage where you need to battle some lions to pass on to a higher up rank of fighters.
About the Fencing again..

Sure, you won´t be able to use it 1:1, cause the sport doesn´t have that much to do with the real thing anymore. But the basics are the same. Fencing goes back about 600 years and the basics are still the same.

Why?

Because they work. It´s something that´s been practised (lethally) for about 500 years. Some things are always true, no matter what you do. Like presenting your enemy with as small a target as possible. Or getting as close to the ground as you can, to be able to change your direction quickly..
Stuff like that..

And you don´t have to do it yourself, watching someone do it should give you the basic idea.
And for what you are doing DEFINITELY sabre.

If you slow that down a bit and use larger swords and larger guys you should be about there.

And of course other fighting styles are necessary (2 swords, huge axe....), but the basics for survival are always the same.

Saying goes:

"A Schmoiz oder a grosse Goschn und schnölle Fiass"
(= Either strenght or a quick tongue and quick feet)
