I''m looking for some inspiration in the 3d arcade game environment. It''s not a genre I usually get into much, so I have no idea what to look at to get a feel for what''s been and done, what works well and what doesn''t. I''m not really interested in platform, fighter (like Mortal Kombat), tetris or arkanoid clones.

First have a look at a heap of reviews. IGN.com is a good place to start. The site I always go to when I have writers block is http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/elfwood.html. Its a Sci-fi and fantasy art site with thousands upon thousands of pics. Have a look around and you will soon see a pic that makes the idea muscele start to work.
