What is the best book to learn low poly 3d modeling and texturing?
What is the best book to learn low poly 3d modeling and texturing? I have no clue because I am a learning noob. Looking around Amazon I came across this book
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0735709181/ref=pd_sim_books_3/102-0651931-0297735?v=glance&s=books
Which seems to have a lot of promise. I do not need application speicfic books, just a good explaination of the process used in low poly 3d model texturing and desgin. Thanks.

The best way to learn art is to practice. You won''t ever become good at anything, simply by reading. Doing is better. With that said, download one of the many open source 3D modeling packages and practice.

ditto,
and the internet.
Thanks asshats, I am doing, its just I am looking for some guided instruction. Your one line help is worthless. Maybe someone can recommend a book that is helpful? You know saying that you cannot refence a book for help when learning something is insane.
"I want a good book to learn how to program C++"
"Practice C++ then! You won''t ever become good at C++ by reading."
Repete: Asshats.
NOW can someone at least suggest a book they found useful on the subject? Or a website?
Ok critical waste, a few things, some of them helpful.
1. Don't start tossin' out insults left 'n right. That's gonna get you nowhere!
2. If it's books you're looking for, amazon is probably the best place to start. Search for "3D modeling" in books and then start following the links and reading the user reviews.
3. If you want some kind of make_me_an_awsome_3D_artist_in_no_time crash course ... you wont find it ... but try this: http://www.ap3d.com. Those tutorials are nice. Also go to the forums at the 3D modeling tool websites, Lightwave3D, 3dSmax etc, preferably the one's you want to use.
4. I'm a programmer and can't draw or model sh**. Just felt like helping out since you were desperate enough for insult-dealing.
'nuff said,
Kári.

Yes, I am desperate. I have been fiddling around with 3d modeling and textures for a week now just fumbling in the dark. I am reading the program manuel and trying to refence online tutorials but I still have no clue as to what I should be doing. I would like to become aware of the "game model making" process before I engage in it too deeply so that I might get a better end result. If you know where you're going...
Yeah the insults weren't all that great but since only two people had one line help that sounded like something out of the Matrix:Reloaded I was a little peeved because I was sure no more help was forthcoming.
The website you recommended should help me out a great deal. Thank you for looking past my rude manners and "turning the other cheek" so to speak. EDIT: Oh yeah, I am not looking for a book that "does everything." I know they rarely exsist and those that do are well known. If anyone else replies; know that I am putting in at least 20 hours a week to my modeling efforts and about 10 towards basic animation, so I am willing to do the work needed to get something done.

what software are you using?
there are some great forums over at CGTalk. Some of them are program-specific as well.

I am currently tooling around with Cinema 4d at school. And thank you for the link. I must be thick not to have run across it yet! ::smacks forehead::

A good Cinema 4d texturing tutorial I found looking over the cgtalk.com boards. Thanks! Really awsome results, I will try it out soon.
I have only a few words for you; If you don''t have the skill or creativity, don''t try to force ability into your head with books.
