Nothing is original.

MMO is quite a new concept (10 years max).

It hasn''t been manipulated as much as other existing genres.

Nothing is original is a pretty hard statement. I meant once the first person or couple of persons think of MMO, they are being original. They have this opportunity because of new technological possibilities.
After this first idea, the rest is just trying to improve the concept or make it happen.

News Flash...
There is nothing new. Man has been copying for ages and ages. If you think you have somthing completly new, think again.
Every game that is ''original'' has it''s concept based in something somewhere.

LOL, could you state the obvious again, please? Why don''t we just remove the word "original" from the english dictionary while we''re at it? I mean, according to you man can never make anything original again. I can see it now... "News Flash!! Man has the ability to move beyond the speed of light! Unfortunately this is nothing exciting, since we, as human beings, have obviously ripped this concept off from a movie".

Why even bother debating this if you obviously don''t think anything can ever be original?

PS: You take the word too literally, if you didn''t catch my drift.

I wouldn''t say Diablo is original. I would say it''s great, but its concept, IMO, is quite old.

Is there a Roguelike gamer in the house?

Theer''s more to making a great game than the two key elements that you suggest. I suggest you sit down with the game that you think are great and analyze them... then sit down with games that others think are great and analyze those as well.

I''m pretty sure that once you''ve objectively studied what makes a great game or better yet what makes a game fun to play you will have more than two ingredients.

You know that 99% of what can be created already has been, the rest is just improvments on the origonal idea. Faster than light space travel? Thats just an improvment on transport. Cant remember who posted it, but they are correct; Man is a very unoriginal creature.

Then what do you deem as "original"? If everything has been discovered, or perhaps not discovered itself, but a predecessor of it has been, what can ever be original again? Let''s say that at one point man has the ability to inhabit other planets. While they they discover a new element, which alters the periodic table. With this new element, technology changes in a whole new direction. The way we lived our lives is gone. You sare saying because we have the inability (yet) to leave this planet, man is "unoriginal"? What kind of logic is this? If someone hid 10 pens in a room, and you found all 10, would they criticize you because you didn''t find the 11th? "Aha! You missed the invisible pen, you unoriginal bastard!"

Everything we will ever do will always be criticized by some as "unoriginal". Why? Because those who criticize are the ones who are actually unoriginal, and their limited focus does not let them see otherwise.

Don''t tell me that most of you ain''t biased. Living in USA being the nationalists 90% of all americans are, I''m not supprissed to say the least that you dislike Japanesse games. And well, I guess millions of Final Fantasy fans are wrong while OF COURSE some of you knows better. Now, is it a coinsidence that XBOX sells very good in it''s home country and crapy elsewhere, when the other consoles sells pretty much equally amongst the diffrent regions. I think not.

ROTFLMFAO!!! Are you serious? AFAIK, most people in the US despise MS and their XBOX.

As for the rest of your discrediting post, you need to actually try to do some research on this, the answers are very clear, just look at how many people go to extreme lengths to play Japanese games just by looking at import sales figures. Understand this, not only do we not hear as much about the many Japan-only games that are released, we usually don't get the option to have it ported over to the US, it's the developers' decisions, not ours. If it was our decision they would be here for our enjoyment as well.

Sorry for the off-topic post all, have fun

In my humble opinion I think Japanese game designers are more original and better than American designers.

Blah blah blah. This whole topic is retarded, how about you all go do something usefull. Let this pathetic excuse for a topic die and program something cool. I hope my topic is original enough for you.
