how do ppl like the idea of a 2d online rpg, based on the rules of deathmatch and capture the flag? top-down view though. what do u think about this?

Try checking the numbers playing already existing 2D RPGs to get an idea. Do a search on google and have a look.

i don''t know if the "deathmatch / ctf" games would be appropriate to an RPG... i mean, what is to stop one level 145 guy with the PUSD from taking on entire teams? usually those type of games have balanced (if not equal) player characters; RPGs obviously have characters ranging from pathetic (can''t kill a rabbit without two heal potions) to godlike.

Ya I thought about such a game too, and had the same balacing problems as krez pointed out. My idea was an action/rpg game where u played an Adept and fought with spells against eachother, kills or something meant levels and that meant more spells...but then what hapens when one guy goes on a killing spree, and gets like 6 levels, hes level 7ish and the others in the game he''s killed is level 1 after a respawn...I still wnat to do a game thats Action/RPG/FPS (2d top down though) that involves mages slinging spells at eachother (perhaps using a sort of black and white gesture system) but have to let more specifics mingle about my head first...

2d online rpg''s i think would be very successful if programed to run on cell fones. that way you could distribute host software for people to run on thier computers at home and people could fone in.. much like an old BBS and play their game locally.

instead of gaining levels, they could just gain new spells, such as in an FPS you kill someone you can take thier weapon, the weapon would equal the spell the mage leveled to, so no one would have an advantage unless they were really good
