DXF is a fairly complex file format...anything in particular you are looking for? Purely the geometry data? Or other stuff too? There are a lot of things that you can encounter in the file, so it''s hard to say what you''re going to get. When you encounter a line, you''ll know what it''s data is supposed to look like, but you can place custom data-types into DXF, and who knows what that data may or may not look like.
So, the question is complicated. Just basic geometry primitives?

well i need only a geometry data,i founded some samle source, but the question is is it simplier to import a .dxf into max, texture it and import it into OpenGL.I think this is a solution. What do you think.
I will be recieving a .dxf files of real houses and my job will be to make a some kind of interactive demos and presentations, but
will i loose a usefull data if i turn it into 3ds?

I would say, since more than likely your only interested in the basic geometry, that 3DS is going to be your best bet. DXF is a very extensible file format, so you''ll probably do better reading 3DS (assuming you''ve got that code), as it''s not so open to extensions (AutoCAD/ADT can create DXF files that have very precise building drawings, but ADT uses custom objects, so that DXF data is going to be very not helpful to you).
So, more power to you going from DXF to 3DS.
What you may want to look at instead (assuming you''ve got some money) would be to look into ADT and Viz, as they''ll give you 3D views of building right out of the box.
