Link to the past-like gameplay
If you were making a game kinda like Link To the Past how would you make the gameplay different and interesting. What are some cool moves and things you would have in it?
I''m an RGP whore so the concept of levels/ability scores, especially with potential for unbalance, is always very fun.
For example, allowing the main character to gain strength by performing some task from killing monsters with hand to hand combat, chopping trees, etc.. and then this strength rather than gloves would allow you to pick up items.. Or your dexterity allowing you to automatically dodge blows, to the point that when your dex gets very high it becomes virtually impossible for some monsters to even damage you. Or allowing a high con to regenerate hit points...
Outside of that I always enjoy more interactive combat.. in link the combat was very straight forward.. you throw a projectile or thrust a weapon, if there is contact a predetermined amount of damage is applied. Different styles, and levels of blows would be nice. Ie- if you slash his head it damages more than slashing the thigh.. of course this adds a whole LOT of work for the programmer...
Just random ideas.
