Hello
Morrowind was developed using the NetImmerse engine, which is now known as Gamebryo. Gamebryo allows you to import models from Maya or 3dsMax, but also allows you to set up custom pixel shaders and animations for better results in game.

Answering your question, I''m not sure whether it was 3dsMax or Maya. Both are pretty good. Personally think Maya has better game development support.

The reason why the models in Morrowind aren''t ''extremely good'' is because Morrowind is an ENOURMOUS GAME! I mean, it''s huge, it takes you like, 5 hours to walk from one end of Morrowind to the other! (The world itself.) If it was atleast half it''s size it wouldn''t be the game it is, but it would have ''better models''. Which would you want to sacrifice, polygon count, or gameplay? I''ll go for the latter.
