Personally, Quest, makers of Ogre Battle, Tactics Ogre, and Final Fantasy Tactics (Well, partially- the team that made FFT was hired out of Quest) has a special place in my heart.

please don´t confuse publishers and developers.
Seriously. For example, Activision did not develop "Tony Hawk" or "Spiderman." The original of both games was done by Neversoft, later "Tony Hawk" games were farmed out to various developers while the most recent "Spiderman" game (based on the movie) was developed by Treyarch.

Blizzard and Squaresoft. Blizzard is obvious, and Square has either made or published RPGs that are too good to pass up. (FF series, SaGa series, etc.)

I don''t remember if Microprose was a developer or publisher (or both!), but they put out some incredible games.
