For Example: Fantasy Isometric RPGs, or Post Apocoliptic FPS

Anything than can make a buck
Seriously, the market is quite diverse with the different types of games presently on the shelves and those coming soon.
The general idea is that people get tired of the same game being repeated over and over but they don''t get tired of new games using the same themes (look at Final Fantasy, all the MMORPGs, all the sports titles, etc). After all, there is only a finite amount of themes but there are an infinite number of representations of those themes. It''s all in finding a representation that offers enough new ideas and twists to make it worth playing.

MMORPG''s are in right now, but I predict they''ll fall out of the spotlight once the next wave of them comes out (players spread too thin, no longer a new exciting concept). On the X-Box, pretty much anything with multiplayer support is good. Since a lot of people haven''t played a lot of types of games in mp before (not everyone goes to arcades / has a good PC).
But usually it''s a good idea to go against the current trends. If you make an online shooter, and there''s 5 popular online shooters out right then,
a) you''re game isn''t going to be appealing it''s just "another online shooter", and
b) you''re audience is going to be extremely small when it''s spread through 6 games (see MMORPG comment above).
So rather, if linear fantasy RPG''s are out, make one. Then it will be a refreshing change from the norm and attract more people.

Last i heard 2D games were coming back in style. Revamps of classics like pacman, pong etc.
I''ve noticed a number of (mostly less playable than the original) ''3D'' remakes of old classics - space invaders, breakout... that sort of thing. Definitely not a good move. At best, the new graphical style costs clarity, at worst, the gameplay is also altered to the extent the game becomes virtually unrecognisable
