Hello, Curently, I'm working on a online strategic turn based game, between Heroes III and email games. I've coded a (telnet) server and implement a graphical interface which encapsulate some server commands (because telnet client isn't very user friendly). I want to create 6 races based on 6 colors: red, yellow, blue, green, white and black. I need to create creatures and buildings for each race but I don't have any original idea. Do you know where I can find resources and how to create a balanced world ? if someone is interested by this project, I can develop You can have a look to my (french) site : http://raum.dnsalias.net Thanks for your help [edited by - raum on March 6, 2003 9:10:45 AM]
For the races, buildings and creatures, use your imagination. If you don't have an imagination, I'd suggest putting your code away for a little while and reading some books, watching some movies, and playing some computer games until you start feeling some inspiration coming to you. Unless you can find someone else to do that for you, but then you'll be missing out on the fun part.

For designing the actual creatures and units, it might be helpful to consider the role they are supposed to play in your game. (One of my old threads on the subject)

Once you've designed your races, you need to balance them. here is a good article to get you started thinking along the right lines.

I''ve lied a bit in my post because I''ve already described all my creatures... I''ve used a development credits for each creatures level. A level 1 has 50 points and to dev ATT, I spend 4 pts, to dev SPD, I spend 2 pts, etc. So I think I balanced all my creatures (total: 42 creatures, 7 creatures level).

Now, I need to create buildings... Which kind of buildgins green race could build ? or black ? or yellow ? etc.

Thanks for your help, I''ve read your two links, nice. Thanks.
I tried pulling up your site, but I got a cannot find server, so some of this may be irrelevant... I''m guessing that since you''re talking in terms of creatures, it has at least some kind of fantasy element to it. IMO, that lends itself particularly well to an archetypal approach... so green is going to be more nature-oriented, black death-oriented, yellow...desert perhaps? Structures under stacked rocks, oasis huts, maybe even something designed with supports up under sand dunes.

I''ll keep thinking about it... and I''ll check back and see if I can get your site to open later. Assuming babelfish can translate the french on it :-p
