I wonder if anyone can help, I''m currently trying to break into the games industry as an [2D] artist. However, so far I get the impression that competent 3D is an improtant requirement. I currently stand best as a 2D/Texture/Traditional/Concept/Illustrational artist... and while I can do some 3D modelling it''s not quite what I want, and so wondered if any of you guys can help. So...does anyone know a good source for tutorials etc? I want to know how to build basic low poly models [can already do a bit] but I want to know about texturing, pref for 3D Studio MAX. Also, what 3D skills would you consider essential. [i''m learning texturing and low poly modelling] Any help would be great... Thanks
I was chatting to the guys from infogrames *grin* the other day. And I was asking about what skills they look for. And they said, they hire..

Programmers, must have 3yr degree and be very good.

Artists, No degree required but you have to be a very good 2D artist! No computer skills required. They can teach you that stuff but if you cant draw, you cant draw.

As Mr Cup always says,
''I pretend to work. They pretend to pay me.''

I applied for the job of "artist" (there was no specific artist postition) at infogrames, Manchester UK and was declined because of a lack of 3D Studio MAX experience! Doh!

Any ideas?

Nice looking site. But it took a long time to load all the images, even with the T3 connection I''m using!

E:cb woof!

It took time to load on a T3?! Jeez, dunno whats going on there...All the GFX used on site are heavily optimised, the average page supposedly loading in between 15-20 secs.

The mind boggles...

anyone got anything else to add? Any help pwease?
Thanks again!
I used to do 2d art for the game industry. After a while, I couldn''t get any new projects.

I took a year off and learned 3dsMax, put out a decent looking demo reel.

I got a job offer after my first interview.

For the games industry a friend of mine who now works at a software co tells me I only need to know a small section of 3D and modelling...

Namely Lowpoly Modelling and Texturing.

A big help for me would be some descent tutorials on Lowpoly Modelling & Texturing in MAX.

Anyone help?
Thanks guys!

www.stephen-hawes.co.uk
