I wanna replace my voodoo2+i740 with a single AGP 3D card, but I dont want to dish out a fortune, ive heard the TNT2 cards cant colorkey in 3D, so what should I buy? I wanna spend about $US150. Is the Diamond Viper V550 good? Good 3D performance? What about the Diamond Viper V770?

Anything less that a GeForce DDR card would be waste of your money at this time. You do want to be able to play Black & White in all its glory don''t you?

Yeh ok, send me a cheque for 500 Bucks and ill buy it to play Black and White for u.

Seriously, I dont want to spend over $200, let alone $xx00 for the DDR. I have a performance chart with all the current and latest video cards, the best is the Leadtek WinFast GeForce 256 DDR selling way over $500, with a speed of 83, a Diamond Viper V770 got a speed of 72, a Diamond V550 got 58, whilst the ol'' 3D Blaster Savage4 got 18!!!!! So i think a DV770 would be suffice 4 me 4 now !4 u 4 today.

Anyone... is the Voodoo3 any good? Does it do 24Bit rendering and window rendering?

Voodoo 3''s are crap. Seriously. I was about to buy one but I found out that it has no 3D-32 bit color support or 24 bit support, no stencil buffers, much slower than tnt2, only has 16 megs of vram, and the Viper 770 is only a few dollars extra. I have a Viper 770. It''s nice. Even though it is a great card, I recommend you get a geforce type card or the Viper II. Word of advice: Avoid all Voodoo cards for about 3 years. Sounds like you made your mind so get the 770. Hopefully you arent going to run any OpenGL programs though. My card craps out when I run any OpenGL program.
If GeForces are that expensive outside the US, wait a few weeeks, and Ill sell you my ASUS GeForce DDR for $100, shipping included

Just trying to help out

The "Asus" GeForce eh? I was refering to the new Leadtek GeForce 256 DDR, i didnt know there was an earlier model, ive found out its under AUS$200 so i think ill surrender to the ol'' Asus GeForce.

The v770 is a TNT2 which doesnt support ColorKeying in 3D and has some OpenGL problems so thats no good, I was thinking of getting an ATI Rage Fury but they''re as slow as shi2 according to a local PC mag.

Asus, Asus....here boy.

Thanks 4 your help..

Get a Matrox G400 Max, it''s as fast as a TNT2, but the quality is much better, it has full GDI, DirectX and OpenGL hardware acceleration, and you can plug two monitors/TV on it ! Plus, it''s basically the best 2D card around (and its 3D performance are quite impressive as well, when not compared to a GeForce2 DDR).

I was talking about the GeForce. I was not talking about GeForce II. When I saw your post with the price (on a GeForce II) all I could think was poor Aussie. Glad you figured it out and found the current standard board at the moment. Its an awesome card, but I can''t wait to get rid of it for a GeForce II.

nes8bit up there said that voodoo3''s wouldn''t do 24 or 32bit rendering? That ain''t true I can run my voodoo 3 in 1600 x 1200 @ 32bpp. Ti was also card of the year at one point and beat many 32 mb cards for speed and effiency. It also does OpenGL very well which as he said the 770 crashed on him (Although that''s probably his machine). It may not have stencil buffer (I don''t know), but I''ve had a rather good experience with it and I got it for $120 CAN (Bought it w/ upgrade, so no box or free games) which is way below your $150 US.
Hope that clears up your view of the card!
See ya,
Ben
