actually there is a free playstations development kit on the net. Got to slashdot.org.
" The fastest code is the code you don't call "
Ok some FACTS here.
Number 1. Playstations that are/were in use by games
developers dont have the copy protection built
into them for abvious reasons. Who wants to be
sending unfinished games to sony too be burned to
a cd so they can see if it works??a waste of
everyones time.

Number 2. psx games are black for 2 reasons. 1 so u know
its a god damn psx cd and 2. to protect the cd from
scratches.

Number 3. Dont u ever read the Gamedev.com news???? u can
get the software to devol for the psx 2 for you
regualr pc yes REGULAR PC no $15000 or whatever
price hard ware and a little note on that. it uses
OPENGL as the api.

Wow, all that info. Thanks guys, I never thought I would get so much.

Now to get specific: Bully, where in Slashdot.org can I find the development kit? A search doesn't reveal it but maybe I'm not using the right keywords?

Zerosignull, I've browsed the news here at gamedev.com but can't find anything either. Do you remmember the approximate date you saw this developer kit announced?

Thanks once more.
