Wizard FPS/TPS
1) DOES such a thing exist?
2)What would one be like?
I think it would be really cool. Instead of going after your enemies with your ASMD Shock Rifle, you would quickly type ''fire 1'' into your Spell Entrance, and a fireball(level 1) would be shot at the enemy. Of course it would be somewhat a homing missile.
You wouldnt go running around- wizards don`t run. Instead you would walk through the castle looking for your enemies.
DEFORMABLE Terrain.
Yes, we want to blow up the castle walls.
Why, I''m not sure, but....
Levels.
This is something I really would like.
Say I''m playing UT.
I''m currently 3/16, at 80 frags.
I''m still the exact same hp as any other player.
I should have some kind of gain resulting from the constant winning I''m doing- not just a visceral- oh...I''m no. 3. wow.
It would be nice to say have 5 hp added per frag.
Ideas people ?

That interface would be AWFUL!
Can you imagine trying to TYPE spells on your keyboard in an intense fight?

Maybe instead of typing you could have a key binding system like the voice binds in tribes2. You would press x, a menu would appear, then you press f then 1 to get fireball level 1, just an idea.

There is the half-defunct Wizard Wars mod for Half-Life.

Unreal Tournament has a wizard battle mod out called Dark Magic or something along those lines. Check out the official UT website and scroll the left side-bar for Mods.

Your idea of walking around seeing your enemy around the corner then chanting your little spells and shooting them off at people sounds a little boring to me. If the extent of your game is action you have to have it. Slow and steady does not (IMO) win the race when it comes to this deathmatch action genre.
Maybe instead of wizards (long cloaks, pointy hats, and thick spellbooks) you could have sorcerors (slick outfits, short spear/sword in hand/quick fire off-the-head spells) that run around and engage in both magical and melee combat.
You could have the different sorcerors with different skills/weapons/spells to choose from. Maybe a fire sorceror with a short spear or a crossbow packing ice sorceror.
This is all my little twist of D&D logic. Seeing as sorcerors in D&D 3e cast spells quickly and plentiful but have a small selection. Sorcerors also have basic weapon skill allowing them to wield swords, spears, and crossbows where wizards can''t.
This moves the focus from slow spellblasting to fast melee clashes mixed with ranged combat w/ spells as a main course.

Before opinions really get flying-
I am aware of the dichotomy between the point+click gameplay people and the more strategic gameplay people.
In my view...this game would fall toward the more strategic end, not the hyperfast action of UT/Qx.
Now; that said.
that menu-interface would be cool.
UT mod- interesting- I''ll check it out.

Wasn''t there a thread a couple of weeks back about a gesture based spellcasting system? (too lazy to try the search)
One possibility if you''re having to type in spell names to cast them would be to allow the player to type something in, banish the text box to move around, then recall the text box and enter the last character of the spell name - in game terms, have a spell readied for an instant casting, allowing for faster reaction with that spell, but requiring more time for any other spell (need to delete existing characters)

gaining hp for each frag?
hell, NO!
Ever joined a CS server when game was in mid?
you come there with NO money and sure join the weak team.
You get fraged, get no money, loosing team looses fun, people leave, new come, and again join the loosing side.
i say for every frag you are leading, SUBTRACT some hp, let the crosshair be less accurate and so on, so the match will be more on even ground again.
if you want increasing hp with gaining "levels", play a RPG.
I don''t think such a FPS-RPG will work.
