Hi ! i'm searching for big 3D-scene, for testing the capabilities of my 3D engine (yes, the creator of the scene would be creditted); It would be good, if the scene is "complete stored" with lots of textures (prefereable >128 used textures) and lot's of object (used objects around 50, 100 or 200); proper mapping would be also requiered; the theme of the scene doesn't matter, but an outdoor scene or soemthing like else would be the nicest, i think. i've searched the internet, but all stuff i can found are only simple meshes - no complete scenes ! does anyone know where to find a big scene like this one ? has anyone a scene, he want to "sponsor" for my demo ? (a long time ago, 3 o4 4 years, on 3dcafe.com, there was a category called "interior" with _real_ big scenes; but it seems that, they have removed this category from their site) Bye DJSnow --------------------------- www.x3dengine.com [edited by - DJSnow on February 24, 2003 10:44:51 AM]

come on; is no one interested in seeing one of his great modeled scenes animated in realtime ??

what format does your engine load?
My engine imports only it''s own format, the .XMF file format; this can be directly exported from 3DSMAX, with a plugin called XMFporter (currently available for 3.x and 4.x - support 3DSMAX5 comes soon);
oh yes, i forgot to say, that it would be cool, if the textures in the scene would have a power-of-2-dimensioned size; but that''s not essential, because the plugin does internal rescaling to an useable size (as you know this power-of-2-dimensioned size is a requirement by todays 3D api''s, DX and OpenGL)

Id be interested in doing the scene for you. I have a lot of experience modeling in max and other apps ! but ill need a little more to go on...outdoor,indoor? past,present,future? characters? vehicles.... you get the idea.

@Jody Gallagher:

great !!!
that's really nice; i really appreciate this !
(because i'm not the person who can sit in front of 3DSMAX for a long time -> the instability of this application drives me crazy !)

some "visions" for this scene:

- it should contain as max textures as you have on your harddisk ! (i'm "dreaming" of a scene with a lot more than 128 textures); as above already mentioned, it would be cool if you could take care of the texture dimensions, to make them fitting into this power-of-2 dimension requirment -> there is an internal scaling routine, but it's results are not so beautiful, so the rescaling with another "image oriented tool" like photoshop or paintshop or anything else, would result in a more better scaled image than that image, which is rescaled internally by the plugin; please think on that.
but: please use only bitmap textures if possible, no procedural materials or something like this. (this is the button in the material editor, where to select, which of which type your new material should be). And yes, multi-materials is no problem, of course.

- the scene should contain lot's of objects - not, let me say ton's of objects -> an object-count of above 200 would be cool ! (and could possibly show the limits, bugs and improvements of the plugin and the engine) but remember that in realtime engines, it is necessary to have only one texture per object, that should use an independet texture; as you know, in 3DSMAX it is possible to assign different textures to different faces of a mesh -> in realtime engines this is not possible, because of this you _must_ use a new object in 3DSMAX if you are interested in using another texture, than that texture you have already used for the rest of a mesh (e.g. the head, body of a human are such objects -> this needs to be split up into two objects: one for the head and one for the body) - please tell me, if you aren't able to understand what i'm talking of, because sometimes my english is very crappy

- lights:
until this point of development, lights are exported but not rendered by the modelviewer; but you can use as many lights as you want.

- cameras:
you can use as many cameras as you want; this is a feature for later reviewing the scene in our engine, to switch between several cameras and see the scene from different viewports(this avoids running for minutes and minutes through the scene by using mouse!)

- the models itself / theme of that scene:
a theme, located somewhere in the past would be the nicest, i think -> sorry i can't specify a special "age" or something, i think this should depend on your skills; do something, what makes fun for you (and something what you would like to do); the scene should contain an outdoor area with some buildings; the landscape may have hills, lakes, some plants (trees) and such things; characters are not needed definitely, vehicle's (fitting into the age/theme) would be nice, but aren't required, too. The main focus of this scene should aim at "demonstrating a scenario with lots of textures and lots of objects". But in general, i think a scene located in the "ancient" or "middleage" or something like this would be the most cool one.

yes, i think that's all.

and if you are thinking of creating a bigger scene with a filesize (zipped) of more than 70MB, please tell me before, because than i have to hire additional webspace at my provider.

hey,
no one else interested in "donating" one of his models/scenes for "good reason" ??
