Boardgames/RPGs with great combat systems?
What board games or non-computer RPG''s have you found that have really good combat systems? My game setting will be historical medieval (no magic), but I''d be interested in anything that didn''t heavily involve projectile weapons. Ideally, the system would scale from party combat (6 vs. 6) up to larger battles involving a couple hundred, but doesn''t need to.
tanks!
Check out Feng Shuei from Atlas Games. It has a really cool combat system for flashy martial arts and action movie type action. I''m not sure how applicable it would be to your game idea though.
GURPS from Steve Jackson has a more realistic combat system that is pretty detailed. And you definitely want to check out D20 if you haven''t already. The site is really nice because it pretty much has all the basic D20 rules and the core D&D3E material availble for free (with very, very ugly formatting and no artwork). Both GURPS and Feng Shuei should have free "lite" rules or quickstart guides that you can check out though.
