C&C: Generals
Command & Conquer: Generals is the best RTS that I have played thus far. That’s a fairly bold statement- but I believe that they have removed the torture of resource gathering into a fairly simple process that allows you to focus on the battle or better put the battles.
I think that we can all agree that resource gathering is one of those things that we seem to always discuss when we start to examine RTSes. Essentially, you build a supply depot and a Chinook starts to gather resources – which is all you have to do; that’s nice. Of course, it’s not perfect. I had to click on my Chinook and tell it to collect resources from another stockpile when the pile that it was collecting ran out.
I really enjoy the way you move through the campaign in single player mode – for those of you that haven’t played it, once you finish a battle or scenario you are show the necessary results screen – the statisticians must require this element after all battles. Then the cool part, click the continue button and you move right through to the next battle – pretty cool and I have never seen this in an RTS. I’m sure there will be more RTSes following this design in the future.
The graphics are very crisp and pleasing to the eye, even on my lame Sony Vaio with a crappy 16mb video card.
If you’ve played it, what’s your take on the game? Pro’s and Con’s

You could also say the combat system sucks because you have to order units to attack the building you want.
But I see what you mean: the game is about fighting, not resource gathering.
I guess this would be a difficult choice for the designers: some people like resource management, some don''t...
WarCraft 3 had a system similar to the "Continue Button" you mentioned. After completing a mission a dialog comes up where you can continue or quit and then it shows the score screen. If you chose continue, clicking ok will load the next mission and if you chose quit, it returns to the menu.

yeah and they moved to a 3d engine so you can zoom in on the action, but they overplay the matrix pan effect in the cut scenes

I''m Human, yup Human, just look at my neck
C&C hmmm
i have never been more disapointed in a game than when i got tiberian sun
then a friend said ra2 was really good, so i got that, and thought it sucked also
my question about generals, is there an attack key like starcraft of to u have to baby sit your units to get them to fight?
thx

There is that attack-move key and tanks even shoot while just moving.
Whats so new about their campaign system ? Imho even Warcraft II had this
Well their "cutscenes" are worse than those in WC3
Cons:
- not yet managed to finish a LAN game with more than 3 ppl
Anything else is really just personal preference i guess
I dislike too many of those units.
Many Special effects :/ (Dont need those in a RTS game)
Not enough micromanagement for me
Weapons you cant do anything about other than destroying the necessary building(s) in your opponents base (Nuke, SCUD Storm, Artillery Barrage)
All in all much better than Tiberian Sun or RA2, but not my game so i''ll stick to warcraft.

I must say C&C Generals is very good. Only bad part is their network but their fixing that with lots of early patches.
To my knowledge Age of Mythology and Warcraft 3 (both I own) have continue features in them.
These 3 RTSes set the standard for the future and the future is, quoting my Chinese Nuke Cannon, "brighter than the sun."

Not sure what you mean but in CC:G you can set a group of units to guard a location on the map. If something comes into their area they will attack and return to the guard location upon completion of the battle.
After playing through most of the USA single player scenarios and playing against a friend on my LAN, I have re-evaluated my statement... CC:G is a good game, and it still is the best RTS that I have played to date - but there are many elements that I do not like.
1)I''m not a fan futuristic weapons.
Ok, nukes are ok, but there should be consequences for the use of them.
2) Weapons such as the scud launcher or scud storm aren''t really that difficult to deactivate let alone destroy IRL.
It takes much to long to destroy the scud storm - there should be a point at which time the launcher is inoperable but there isn''t.
Any way, I''ll keep playing it until RoN comes out... I''m a gamer and a coder, it''s what I do.

Oh, Steel_Rain, what is that picture that you have in your sig? To me, its either a picture of a Patriot missile or a HAWK missile being launched. What is it?
