bot match? or deathmatch?
Would you(reader) rather battle comp controlled players in a fps? or other players on a network?
counting lag and lack of ai
REAL players are the ideal opponents in a fps.

no kidding. I would much rather play agains realy opponites than even the best AI. AI are great for practice, but theres nothing to compaire to the feeling I get when I just blew away a real flesh and blood player.

Just write really good AI (like Turing machine standard) and tell the player that it is a human opponent. Simulate a bit of lag every now and then and no one knows the difference (unless they aren''t connected to the internet)
hehehe. Gee I''m smart

Definately real players... even the best bots at the moment (UT/Q3) become highly predictable and are highly flawed... Quake 3''s are actually terrible (they can''t even ''see'' items that are in the air...)
So, unless you can go far better than those bots, keep off them

There is something special about knowing that there is someone on the other side of the globe screaming in rage as you frag him for the hundreth time (exaggerating I know, but still )

I play FPS games ALOT in fact, next to a few Strategy(MCG mainly) and RPG(Fallout series), i don''t play anything else.
I''ll tell you if you want bots, model them after the 3-4 hardest UT settings. UT''s bots are the smartest i''ve seen in any game yet. If you are going to make it multiplayer capable, REDUCE LAG, there are still a lot of us 56k''ers out there and w/out about a 350 lag, its no fun. Use as little command-sizes as possible(i.e. TF2''s standard shoot command is 3bytes). I prefer online play personally, so simply, yeah, multiplayer, but do watch the lag!!!

I prefer deathmatch to botmatch for many reasons. One, bots aren't nearly as unpredictable as humans. Two, you can't impress bots . Three, bots can't chat.

I agree with WitchLord. I love the fact that the other guy is all red-faced and slamming his head against the moniter than the bot who just takes it and continues. Also, I like how humans are just, um, SMARTER than bots. Humans also don''t seem to run into walls as often
