Hy everyone ! This might sound a little weird: but i have completed a 3D engine(well, at least most of it), and i completly forgot to design the actual game I know it is stupid, but i''ve just reallized, that i have 2 weeks till i have to complete the game I will describe capabilities, and if anyone can help out with a story or a gameplay that would look nice, and work with the caps of my engine ! HH 3D Engine *** Real time rendering (D3D HAL) *** Loading, Rendering, Positioning, Rotating Meshes *** TL Sprites, Animated TL Sprites, Point Sprites *** 3D Enviroment with lighting, fog, skybox *** Optimized Terrain engine for optimal rendering speed *** Height map generator, texturer tool *** Mouse, Keyboard input -> Quake style movement, mouse look, etc. *** Character Mesh, wich can walk, turn left or right and pitch up and down *** 3rd person view on the character Well, that''s most of it...not much really, but the terrain engine i''m really proud of Every idea is welcome !

Well, i had done a hellicopters game in 1 month from the scratch, i see that you dont have a collision detection system, so maybe some kind of game like this could be easy, and you can make it really fast with that tools.

Maybe a vietnam campaigns could achieve action and history.

Hope this helps.

ok how about this...
A simple tank game where you control the tracks using WESD. Bare with me. ''W'' and ''S'' will control the frowards and backwards of the left track with ''E'' and ''D'' doing the right one. Then your mouse aims the turret to fire weighty shells that arc.

You could even combine it with the helicopter idea somehow.

Just a thought.
Follow your tastes in gaming and do the game on something you know a lot about. Action/Arcade would probably be best since strategy and RPGs take a relatively long time to develop. You also might want to gear the game toward your engine''s strengths (IE, if it''s amazingly fast you could do a dizzying plunge down a shaft, fighting as you go, like Gandalf & the Balrog in Lord of the Rings).

please use ''wasd'' instead of ''wesd''... its what we''re all used to. ad control the separate tracks (Forward, i guess) and the ws are fwd/bck for both at the same rate.

WESD WASD in general its poor practice to force the keys in any permanent configuration since uncle billy is missing two fingers on his left hand. I am a firm believer that all games if possible ought to have configurable keys and that sound shalt turn itself offeth after 5 minutes of inactivity. Ahem which really doesn''t help the poor sod who has a tomb raider engine (as I perceive it) and no idea what to do with it.

I beleive that after everyone gives them their ideas s/he will come up with the idea of making super pacman/bomberman/snake anyway.

Keep the game main idea simple anyway and then polish it if you have the chance.

open arena combat/racing, make the terrain really large and let people go at it with high speed vehicles that skim above the ground and/or on foot, alternate levels one combat, one racing(but still with weapons)

or large fps battle arena, something like those scenes in Starship Troopers
Oy vey! This isn''t the approach I would have taken. Ideally, you want to make the technology suit the game concept, and not vice versa...

You haven''t much time for designing levels or characters, and this takes hella time to do in 3D anyway unless you happen to have also designed yourself a set of terrain and model building tools to go with your engine. Vehicles might be the best route as they aren''t as complex as human models. Also, you don''t have much time to create intelligent opponents, so most of the challenge will have to come from the nature of the terrain. No time for designing clever puzzles...

Hm. How about a timed race for objectives? Your character could be a giant humanoid robot in a bizarre footrace - he must grab a series of colored flags scattered across a wilderness area before a timer runs out. The terrain is broken and varied, so the player has to use the robot''s running and leaping abilities. An arrow or other indicator shows the direction of the next flag, but the terrain precludes moving as the crow flies, meaning the player will have to plan and navigate a route quickly under time pressure.

You could add turrets which fire cannon shells - the shells aren''t strong enough to hurt your robot''s armor but they knock it back and make it harder to navigate. The player can punch the turrets into rubble if he reaches them, but it takes time and they have to decide whether it''s necessary to spend the time. Bonus flags or other items and powerups could also be scattered about, including time extensions, speed boosts, rocket boosters for better jumping, and one-shot bazookas for eliminating turrets at a distance - but again the player has to decide whether going off course for these goodies is worthwhile.

If you made this game, I''d play it.

How about a multiplayer combat racing game? Powerups (oil, rockets, bombs), jumps and pits, engine/body/tire upgrades based on racing results, and so on. Those games always rock.

An idee for you :

A paper-made dummy is lost in an hostile world (there are fire, water, scissors) and he has to find his way to the exit.
To do so he has to use some elements (push a lever, push a box, drag and drop a pipe, etc) to clear the way (drive the water into fire, create a new path, block scissors, etc...)

To help him, he could find option (fire-proof/water-proof/cut-proof layer) and can gain abilities during the game : folding itself into a new shape :
- folding into a crane or a plane to flight for a limited amount of time
- folding into a boat to cross a river
- etc...

The good thing is that there are not a lot of work for modeling the hero (it''s a flat object)...
