I have Windows 98 Second Edition (updated from version 4.10.98). It works fine but when I try to handle files under explorer, it freezes.... For example when I try to copy & paste stuff from location "a" to location "b", copying a 100 kb file could take minutes! Also when I try to open archives, it takes a long long time to open them.... Otherwise it works just fine, so any idea what is causing this and what to do with it?
OUCH. 100 kb take minutes? You really have something wrong. I can''t tell what it is, but you have something seriously wrong. When was the last time you defragmented your hard drive? Other than that, all I can tell you is that something is screwy with Windows.

Sometimes my IE slows down like that too. My solution is to press CTRL-ALT-DELETE and end the task "Explorer." This kills all the tray icons temporarily and really speeds up IE.

(BTW, my hard drive is about 1/2 full.)
