Anybody know of a good tutorial/walkthrough/book/whatever to designing artistic architecture? Particularly science-fiction or fantasy flavored architecture? Or a visual catalogue of types of topiary and other decorative garden plants perhaps? I''m trying to help my staff artist design the settings for our graphic novel, and we decided we want one area to be art nouveau with stained glass, one gardeny with fountains and trellis arches and topiary, one modern with stylized curves and clean minimal squares, etc., but we''re not quite sure what to do next. I had a look through my local book stores, and I just didn''t see anything that talked about the theory of designing a building complex or anything remotely similar, although there was an interesting one on interior design for casinos and other entertainment spaces. Am I looking in the wrong section or something? Do they file design theory books separately? I''m very puzzled. The only useful thing I''ve managed to do is borrow a stack of Architectural Digests from my library and scan some random things that I like.

I wholeheartedly suggest the "Illustrated Dictionary of Historic Architecture" by Cyril M. Harris.

I have? Where? I haven''t been over there recently because I''ve been on vacation for 2 weeks, but I''ll mosey on over there and look at what''s been going on.
