My LOTR Orc :)
Hi guys, just want to show you a work-in-progress shot of a model for a demo I''m working on - of course: Lord of the Rings :D
Orc-head
Besides that I have a question: As you see the orc''s hair is missing - what''s the best way to add good looking hair? just a textured block? hmmm...
That''s nice. I have to say though that it eerily resembles the rabbit from the rabbit hole I think that''s icarus indie now or something.

Nice job I would make a custom rendering function for hair. Two vertices (start and end point) connected by a blended line. The end vertex should be able to move in the wind.

To be completly honest, its good..but it needs some work which should be easy to fix. Then it will look great. The front of the face is too pointed and edged. Have it round off a little and move the center vertices of the nose and mouth back a little. The pucture shown shows a fairly flat face is it is. The back of the head has a single point where the faces seem to meet. Try to round that off as it looks jagged. The head looks a little long but that can be fixed by just moving the vertices near the back of the head foreward a little or scaling the whole model only on the z axis. One more thing, there is no texture on the back of the ears. Try to create one from the texture used on the front of the ears. Then it should look good.
As for hair, single strands of lines recommended by unspoken_magi are usually too slow. They require too many lines in order to look good. Also strait lines won''t work - they woudl have to be curved which would add a lot of problems. You could however use a technique used in grass creation. Group strands together in patches. Check out grass techniques and moving them in the wind. They should relate back to the hair pretty easily.

if he''s going for low poly, both methods suck, he needs textured planes with an alpha channel or a big block of hair. But whatever is done, make sure the eye indentations are modelled. without them, the model will suffer too greatly.
Thats pretty cool, but the front of the head looks a little too big to me. I think it should be a little flatter. But maybe thats just me...

Hi! Thanks for your comments and ideas - I''ve updated the screenshot showing a more recent version of the head-model
Concerning the hair I''m still not sure who to approach this problem, well, school keeps me busy anyway at the moment - but if someone has an idea, I''d be glad to hear/read it!
Thanks again for your help, I hope you like it better now

Oh, yes now that is much better. Where did you get that texture?

Do you really think the eyes are too stretched out?
